A new poll has found that 60 percent of Americans believe President Joe Biden actively helped his son Hunter in his foreign business dealings.
The Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll surveyed 2,851 registered voters from Nov. 15 to 16 and found that 60 percent believe in the statement “Joe Biden helped and participated in Hunter Biden’s business,” while 40 percent responded that they do not believe the president had any involvement. Among the respondents, Republicans were more likely than Democrats to say that they believe Biden participated in Hunter’s business life, with 81 percent of Republicans compared to 39 percent of Democrats and 59 percent of independents believing that Biden knew about his son’s activities.
Sixty-one percent of Democrats believe the president had no knowledge of his son’s potentially illicit business dealings. Nineteen percent of Republicans and 41 percent of independents hold similar belief.
Biden continues to insist that he has never talked business with his 53-year-old son and has repeatedly denied knowledge of his dealings, despite evidence to the contrary already being found, including emails from Hunter’s abandoned laptop and congressional testimony from Hunter’s former business partner.
The poll’s results come out as the Republican-controlled House of Representatives continues with its formal impeachment inquiry into Biden and his family. In September, the House Oversight and Accountability Committee held its first hearings on the impeachment inquiry into Biden, with a focus on Hunter’s bank records and business dealings.
The impeachment inquiry is ongoing, with current House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) now helming the inquiry. Democrats claim Republicans have yet to create a concrete connection between the president and any potential wrongdoing.
Harris Poll Chairman Mark Penn noted that the results show that voters are still very concerned about Hunter Biden’s business deals and the president’s potential involvement in these possibly illicit deals.
“While the news has pivoted to other topics, voters remain concerned about Hunter Biden and how involved President Biden was in his business,” said Penn in a statement. “Hunter received a high unfavorable rating – worse than the president – and most believe that the president at least knew about his dealings.”
Hunter received an unfavorable rating of 55 percent – 37 percent “very unfavorable” and 18 percent “unfavorable” – the highest among more than two dozen public figures the nearly 3,000 respondents were asked to rate. The president received the second-highest unfavorable rating at 48 percent, with 36 percent saying they have a “very unfavorable” view of Biden and 12 percent saying they have an “unfavorable” view of him.
Former President Donald Trump, who is likely to win the Republican Party’s nomination for president in the 2024 election, earned the highest favorability rating in the same poll. Thirty percent of respondents said they have a “very favorable” view of him.
