The liberal state of Massachusetts, which prides itself as a sanctuary for illegals, has told border crossers to go somewhere else after its resources have been overstretched to handle the migrant influx.
According to media outlet Law Enforcement Today (LET), Democratic Gov. Maura Healy is hoping that state personnel will connect with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Department of Defense‘s Joint Task Force North, non-governmental agencies and migrant families to send the message that “the ‘welcome’ mat is no longer out.”
Scott Rice, director of the Bay State’s Emergency Assistance (EA) program, said officials will be going to various processing centers in Texas, such as the San Antonio Airport, Centro de Bienvenida/San Antonio Migrant Resource Center and Shelter, the Ursula Processing Facility in McAllen, Texas, Hidalgo Port of Entry and the Brownsville Migrant Welcome Center.
“This trip is an opportunity to meet with families arriving in the U.S. and the organizations that work with them at the border to make sure they have accurate information about the lack of shelter space in Massachusetts,” he remarked. “It is essential that we get the word out that our shelters are full so that families can plan accordingly to make sure they have a safe place to go.”
Despite Massachusetts’ shelter shelter system being full, illegal aliens continue to stream into the Bay State.
LET pointed out that Healey “is circumventing the ‘proud’ history of Massachusetts as being one of the first sanctuary states after realizing that the [state] is running out of room to house the illegals [President] Joe Biden’s lax border policies have allowed to enter.”
Alongside the effort to inform illegals that the Bay State can no longer keep the migrant influx at bay, the governor also signed a proposal limiting the amount of time illegals can stay in emergency housing. Under the proposal, illegals in emergency shelters will only have nine months to live under the EA system before they are told to move on. Healey’s fellow Democrats argued that the bill is necessary to curb demand amid an influx of migrants. In a statement, the Massachusetts governor said the proposal “implements a length of stay policy for emergency assistance shelter, which is a responsible step to address our capacity and fiscal constraints as Congress has continued to fail to act on immigration reform.” She added that a companion spending bill she also signed “dedicates resources to balance the budget and maintain critical services and programs.”
“We will be finalizing details of this policy in the coming weeks and ensuring that families and providers are informed of the requirements and the services that we have available to help them secure work and stable housing.”
But for State Sen. Peter Durant, a Republican, there is a much simpler solution to the Bay State’s migrant problem – stop giving money to illegals. “Until you stop benefits, until you stop all of the easy flowing dollars and rooms and food, people are going to continue to come,” he said.
